The scraping of paws against the ground awoke Brindlestripe. She found herself sleep walking again, with her paws stretched out from under her, claws unsheathed, clawing at the ground. A curiosity grew over her every day as she wondered why she did so. Brushing it off quickly, she turned her attention to the sleeping apprentice next to her. Careful as to not wake him, she padded over to the many shelves of the den and browsed over them, making sure they had enough herbs to last the winter. Because if they didn't, the snowstorms would keep them from gathering new ones.
Oh well, fretting over it wouldn't help anything. Scanning over, she didn't realize that her tail had knocked into a leaf bundle holding a panful of Juniper Berries. In a messy pile, they scattered across the floor of the den, rolling around, and crashing into the walls. She flinched and closed her eyes, hoping that she didn't wake Ferretpaw.

Ferretpaw jumped up, glancing around the den to see what woke him up. He caught sight of his mentor. "Wha-" he stammered out. He then noticed the herbs on the floor, and nodded wearily. He knew Brindlestripe would feel guilty about it, so he immediately began to clean up the mess, attempting to appear as awake as possible. "It's actually a good thing you woke me up," he mumbled kindly, glancing up at her. "I know that, if you hadn't, I probably would've slept for a moon." He grinned lightly at her. He liked Brindlestripe. She was kind, and she understood him. He really couldn't ask for a better mentor, and he knew it.

Feeling disoriented, Brindlestripe grew red with embarrassment. Her eyes glanced at the young apprentice picking up the fallen herbs, then realized she should be helping. Gulping down her anxiety, she began placing the herbs back on the crooked shelves.
"S-sorry." she stuttered an apology. "I should have been more careful." Glancing over some of the herbs, she realized that most of them were completely crushed. "Great Starclan, we'll have to go out and get more." She turned to the exit to look outside, making sure the weather was in good condition. "Would you like to come with me?" Brindlestripe glanced back to Ferretpaw.

Ferretpaw turned to her and nodded excitedly. "Sure!" He hurried over to her side, the scent of fresh herbs already filling his nose. "What... er... what exactly are we looking for?" His green eyes suddenly became unsure. Could he remember what each herb looked like? He turned his gaze to the crushed herbs in the den. Surely he wouldn't forget what they were called.... He shook his head, ridding himself of the thought. Even if he couldn't Brindlestripe would understand.

Brindlestripe smiled warmly to the young apprentice, trying to calm him down. "Don't worry. It's simple. We're just looking for more Juniper Berries. Do you remember what they look like?" She questioned his knowledge of herbs. She padded outside and into the clouded day, the crisp breeze making her shiver. "It's starting to get cold. We'd better hurry."

"Aren't they small blue berries?" Ferretpaw questioned, padding after her. He felt the cold breeze ruffling his fur and nipping at him as well, and shivered just as she had. If there was one thing he hated, it was the cold. He sighed heavily, wishing for the warm days of Greenleaf he used to to spend out in the sun.

Brindlestripes nodded in agreement. She never spoke, but her smile indicated that he was correct. Walking out of camp, she looked around for some Juniper Berries that hadn't frozen over yet. It was going to be tough trying to find them.
Realizing that they had already walked too far from the camp, Brindle stopped and located her apprentice. The windy breeze shook them both. "We'd better hurry. Grab any Juniper Berries you see!"

Ferretpaw closed his eyes against the cold wind, and nodded hurriedly. Once the breeze had passed, he glanced around and broke off some Juniper Berriers from a bush nearby. He could feel that they were frozen, but that was all that he saw at the moment. He broke off a few more, and then turned to her, holding them tightly in his jaw. He squinted his eyes against yet another biting breeze.

Studying them carefully, Brindlestripe sighed when she noticed they were frozen solid. "Well, we'll just have to thaw them out when we get back to camp." Surveying the area, she spotted a group of them clustered together, as if they were trying to keep warm. She snapped them off and held them tightly in her maw. "Let's go." she said through a mouthful of berries, and turned back in the direction of the camp.
Suddenly, a large gust of wind started settling in, and a wicked freeze washed over them. "W-we're g-gonna freeze to d-death out here..." Brindle stuttered and shivered. She knew they had to find shelter, and fast. Looking around, she saw a cave on the side of Snowclan's mountain, and figured it would be the perfect place to rest until the snowstorm ended. "Come." Brindlestripe ordered her apprentice and flicked her tail in the direction of the cave, "We'll stay there for now." Her teeth chattered as they approached the side of the cave.

Ferretpaw's eyes widened as he stared at the cave that Brindlestripe was headed to. He turned to her with a surprised expression to object, but was cut off by a frigid breeze. Shaking from the cold, he nodded and followed his mentor. "W-What will we d-do if SnowCl-Clan catches us?" he asked, glancing up at her, and then squinting his eyes against a cold breeze.

Her ears twitched at the word "Snowclan." Looking up the side of the mountain, she tried to locate their icy den, but it was impossible with the snow. "Don't worry, young one. They wouldn't dare attack Medicine Cats." She flicked her tail towards the cave and settled inside, the walls shielding them from the icy winds. She heaved a sigh and curled up, shivering fiercely, but not complaining. "It'll be over before you know it." Brindle wasn't actually sure if that was true, but she knew she had to raise the apprentice's spirits up. And her own.

Ferretpaw padded up to her and curled up next to her on the cold stone floor of the cave. He gazed out into the snow storm with worried green eyes, and curled up tighter. He wasn't used to being this cold. But it would be okay, because Brindlestripe said that it wouldn't last long, and he trusted her. He turned to her and lightly touched his nose against her muzzle, showing his mentor that he believed her. The small apprentice curled up once more and closed his eyes, attempting to get some rest.

Brindlestripe grew warmer as the apprentice closed the distance between their bodies. She heaved a shivering sigh and curled her tail around his body, gazing out into the storm. Desperately, she hoped the storm would end soon, and that she was right. Well, Starclan wouldn't do anything bad to a group of Medicine Cats, right?

Ferretpaw's attempt was futile. There was no way he could sleep in such a storm. so, he just stayed there with his eyes closed, shivering and wishing for it to end. He began to miss SmokeClan camp even more than before. Actually, any camp would do right about now. "Brindlestripe, where is the SnowClan camp?"
