The high ridges that surrounded the StormClan camp where always warm. Always the first places to be hit by the warm rays of the morning sun, they got the most heat throughout the day. And so, that is where we can usually find Sunshine on these beautiful mornings. The bright orange pelt that seemed to glow almost yellow stood out against the dark grays of the rocks, almost like the sun itself. If there was any thing that prided him more than his pelt, he didn’t know it. Yes, he was a happy young warrior, fit to be the first one up, the one to rise with the sun.
Back in the camp, of course, where the late risers. Moondust had never had a liking for the sun. He had always been a night cat. His silvery white pelt shone like the moon and stars under the dark skies. It was very rare that you would find him in the den before you. Nearly always hanging out in the open until way past the Moon’s rise, he had looked to the Moon as a member of his family.

The nearly yellow tom stood and stretched his hind legs out, kneading the ground as he did so and yawning. He looked below him to see the cat who shared his nest. He curled some of the moss around his head using his long yellow tail and padded out of the den. There where very few cats who enjoyed being up as early as he did. He glanced around but didn’t see anyone up yet. He headed for the mouth of the camp and leaped onto a ledge high above. The sun had already started to warm these rocks so he curled up at stood guard, watching the camp.
The silver tail that had been left alone in the warrior’s den started twitching slightly. The cat attached to the tail pawed at the empty nest beside him. He rolled over and groaned. There was little he could do though. He couldn’t stand to be without his mate so, reluctantly he stood and stretched, though not as quickly or enjoyably as Sunshine had. Eyes still closed he clumsily felt his way out of the den. By know he could pick up the bright sent of his mate and walked to the edge of the camp. His eyes fluttered open as he looked up at the bright cat above him. “Oh, so you decided to just leave me this morning. Is that it?”
Sunshine smiled and leapt from his perch, landing not far from the cave. He padded forward and stood beside his mate, twining their tails. “You know I would never leave you, Moondust. I was just a bit restless this morning, that’s all.” He pressed his fur against the silver cat and licked over his eyes to help him wake up. Moondust smiled.
“Let’s get some food and see what other poor soles you’ve awakened.”
